Don't Take Your Home off the Market During the Holidays!

You may be reluctant to try to sell your home during the holiday season. With all the hustle and bustle of decorating, shopping and family entertaining it may seem monumental to put, or keep, your house on the market. However, it may be surprising that there are some good reasons and possible advantages of selling your home during this time.

There may appear to be less buyers during November, December and January but the ones who are looking are sometimes more serious about closing on a deal. They may have intentionally waited until the rush of the spring and summer selling season was over before they began their search. Or, they may have to relocate because of their job and have no choice but to find a new place to live. This results in a little more motivation to negotiate just so they can get their kids settled before school starts again in January. Or, negotiate a deal in January and move during spring break in March.

It is true that the inventory of houses on the market is usually a little lower at this time but that can be to your advantage. You may have more showings now than if you were to put your house on the market in the spring or summer.  Motivated buyers may be more willing to negotiate because they have less options.

If you decorate during the holidays, your house will have extra charm and look even more appealing than it might have during a less festive season. Your house will be shown looking its best and most attractive (as long as you decorate tastefully!). Potential buyers will be able to imagine their own families celebrating in the home.

The moral of the story is, don’t take your home off the market right now, the holiday season is as good a time as any to sell!
